ECU REMAPPING

ECU remapping is taking a read from the ECU’s processing chip of the vehicles standard compromised map and adjusting various parameters within the map such as fuel pressure, boost pressure (on turbocharged applications) ignition advance and throttle pedal control amongst others to release the true performance from the engine. It is a completely safe process as it is just giving the engine the performance it should have had in the first place before all the compromises were applied to the original

KEY PROGRAMMING

The programming software will allow the locksmith to both add and remove keys from the car. This is useful for the following reasons:

  • Some cars, such as Fords, only allow a limited number of keys into the car’s system. Four keys is the maximum number for Fords. A locksmith can use their computer to erase keys that no longer exist, opening up those slots for your new key to be programmed.

  • When keys have been lost, or stolen, they can be removed from the car so that they can no longer start the car or open the doors (for FOBs/Smart Keys).

ECU PROGRAMMING

Coding is an intervention in the configuration of the on-board computer. This can be compared with the configuration of a PC. If you connect a printer your PC through a cable… nothing happens. This is because the software of the PC recognizes a new device. But, cannot classify it since the printer’s software is not installed on the PC. Therefore, to use the printer through the PC, the printer’s software must be installed and activated.

MILAGE CORRECTION

Mileage correction becomes necessary when the digital speedometer mileage display shows a reading which you know to be incorrect. EHC remapping can help by electronically adjusting and reset the instrument cluster to show the true, correct value.

DTC REMOVAL

Permanently removing fault codes from the engine management system is a very useful process when modifying a vehicle. Removing components such as swirl flaps, EGR valves, other modules etc.. for purpose of performance modification or motorsport will often cause a fault code to be stored in the ECU memory along with lights on the dash and limp mode. By recoding the ECU data and permanently removing the specific fault code we can prevent the dash lights from being displayed and prevent the vehicle from entering limp mode.

EGR SOLUTIONS

The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system fitted to turbo diesel vehicles can cause running problems, so an EGR delete from Chip Tuning Solutions is an alternative to potential costly repairs. The purpose of an EGR system is to reduce NOx gas emissions from the engine, which it does by directing a proportion of the exhaust gas back into the engine to weaken the fuel/air mixture, reducing peak combustion temperatures and the formation of NOx.
Disabling the EGR valve has the benefit of increasing engine power by stopping the inert exhaust gas entering the combustion chamber. The EGR metering valve is prone to failure and common failures can be attributed to the valve operation being impeded by carbon build up in the inlet manifold. The carbon build up can actually be traced to the EGR valve itself because of the way it allows exhaust gasses to mix with vapours from the crankcase ventilation system, so an additional benefit of an EGR delete is a cleaner inlet manifold system.

DPF SOLUTIONS

As with any filter, a DPF needs to be clean and clear to work efficiently and this should happen with a process called regeneration. This would naturally take place in diesel vehicles spending more time running at their optimum engine temperature; under these conditions the DPF periodically clears itself once heated to its optimum temperature.
In situations where the engine is running at less than its optimum temperature, such as during frequent stop/start driving or a series of short trips, the filter can’t clear itself. As a result it eventually gets clogged with soot that affects performance, economy and emissions.
It can be prevented by periodic (at least monthly) higher speed runs on an open road, but once symptoms of a build up of soot occur such as a fall-off in performance or the DPF warning or anti-pollution light illuminating, then it’s usually too late.
The DPF would require replacement at usually considerable cost - possibly well into four figures.
